If you require vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need an appointment with the practice nurse. You will need to book an appointment 6 weeks before your departure date to give the vaccines time to take effect. Patients wishing for a more urgent appointment should attend a private travel clinic. We offer a basic travel service with general travel advice plus vaccinations which can be given under the NHS. We are unable to offer in depth travel advice.

These vaccines we can offer are Hepatitis A and Typhoid. We will give a tetanus/diphtheria/polio booster if advice for your destination specifies that a booster is required if you have not had one for 10 years. Most people have had 5 doses in their lifetime and this is usually sufficient. These vaccinations are provided free of charge with the NHS. Other vaccines you may require from a private clinic will incur a charge.

We would recommend that you contact a private travel clinic for a comprehensive assessment and advice if you are travelling to several destinations or have a complicated itinerary (eg trekking through jungles, crossing borders).Details of these are listed below.

You might find it useful to visit the Fit for Travel website to get an idea of the vaccinations you might require. www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk

Please be aware that we DO NOT offer Hepatitis B or AWCY meningitis vaccinations. We also will not give advice or vaccinations for children under the age of 2.

Malaria

Pts will be informed if malaria tablets are recommended for areas of travel. if anti-malarial tablets are recommended the pt will need to assess their own risk and decide which anti-malaria tablets they would like. Information to help pts is available from many sources. Advice on medications, prices and availability is available from most pharmacies.
